• Go to shop and buy a silver mirror from the "Village Shop"
• Go to King Trent (from shop: s;2 e;5 s;w;d;s;2 e;s;u;e;s;w;s;2 w;n;4 w)

King Trent says 'Welcome to Xanth, Moss'
King Trent says 'I have been looking for someone like you.'
King Trent says 'I am trying to discover the source of magic in Xanth.'
King Trent says 'Will you help me?'

• say yes

You say 'yes'
King Trent smiles happily.
King Trent says 'Wonderful!'
King Trent says 'I suggest you start with a visit to Good Magician Humphrey'

• Go to the Ouroboros: 4 e;s;2 e;n;w
• After serpent raises look in which direction to continue (You might have to repeat this a few times)
• At the Bigmouth: say open sesame & w

You say 'open sesame'
The gargoyle opens as mouth as wide as it can, and
you see a tunnel leading into the castle inside.

The Manticore is here.
the Manticore says 'Greetings slug!'
the Manticore says 'You will have to get by me if you want to see the gnome.'

• Kill the Manticore
• Go to humphrey and say source

Humphrey's Study

Good Magician Humphrey is here.

He is short and old and looks rather like a gnome.
Humphrey is in perfect health.
Humphrey has about 1048 hitpoints left.
Humphrey is using: Nothing!
You peek at the inventory:
Nothing.

You say 'source'
Without thought the gnomelike magician begins to speak.
Humphrey says 'The source of magic in Xanth lies deep below the surface.'
Humphrey says 'You may find an entrance near the Region of Madness.'
Humphrey says 'Oh yes, you may need this.'
Humphrey gives you phosphorescent moss.
Humphrey says 'Now leave me alone!'
Humphrey waves his hand and you find yourself somewhere else.

• He will teleport you out
• Wander around till you find a like
• Get breathe water on
• Find the vortex in the lake and wait till you are sucked down
• Go to brain coral and kill it
• Follow trail to find the Demon X(A/N)th
• Wake the Demon X(A/N)th and: say source & say privacy

the Demon X(A/N)th shouts 'Why have you awoken me?'

> say source & say privacy

You say 'source'
the Demon X(A/N)th says 'Of course I am the source of magic.'
the Demon X(A/N)th says 'Now tell me why I should not kill you for disturbing
me!'

You say 'privacy'
the Demon X(A/N)th says 'Come back when you can ensure my privacy'
the Demon X(A/N)th says 'and I will let you live.  Now begone!'

• Go back to King Trent and say privacy

You say 'privacy'
King Trent says 'Very well, we shall have to give him the shieldstone'
King Trent says 'that helps to protect Xanth from invaders.'
King Trent says 'Go to the border guard and tell him'
King Trent says ''Trent needs the shieldstone.''

• Go to border guard and say Trent needs the shieldstone.

You say 'Trent needs the shieldstone.'
a border guard says 'Yes ma'am!'
A border guard gives you the shieldstone.

• Go back to King Trent and give stone trent

You give the shieldstone to King Trent.
King Trent says 'Thank you, Moss'
King Trent says 'I have modified the stone for use for the Demon.'
King Trent says 'You had better take this to your Demon now.'
King Trent gives you the shieldstone.

• Go back to the Demon X(A/N)th and give stone demon

You give the shieldstone to the Demon X(A/N)th.
the Demon X(A/N)th says 'You have proved resourceful indeed, but I would'
the Demon X(A/N)th says 'have you know that I can provide myself with anything'
the Demon X(A/N)th says 'I need including privacy.  Take this anyway for I
have'
the Demon X(A/N)th says 'no need of it.'
the Demon X(A/N)th says 'Now begone!'
The Demon X(A/N)th gives you the shieldstone.

• go 5e s 2e n 3w (the basilisk is here)
• Have mirror in inventory, kill basilisk

The basilisk sees itself in your mirror and is turned to stone.

• Go through tunnel and kill guardian
• Go to humphrey
• say help

Humphrey says 'You have gotten past my obstacles, what do you want?'

You say 'help'
Humphrey gives you a xanthite belt.
Humphrey gives you a xanthite ring.
Humphrey gives you a xanthite bracer.
Humphrey gives you a xanthite cloak.
Humphrey says 'There!  If that doesn't help you nothing will!'
Humphrey says 'No go away!'
