THE NETHERWORLD
This area is the mystical Realm of the evil dead, the playground of
demons and the origin of the power of necromancery. It exists under the
region known as Avernus and encompasses the remaining 8 layers of Hell:
Dis, Minauros, Phlegethos, Stygia, Malbolge, Maladomini, Cania and Nessus.
Avernus is ruled by the pit devil Belial. The other 8 layers are ruled by
the dark eight: Furcas, Baalzephon, Zimimar, Zapan, Zaebos, Corin, Dagos,
and Pearza. These greater devils have equipment of great value to those
of evil orientation.

You must be level 75 or higher to enter this area. Anyone smaller would
surely be killed by an overflow of negative energy. Of course, only
necromancers understand the power of the Netherworld, so only they may
enter.
HISTORY OF THE NETHERWORLD
Long ago, when the God known as Demise kept balance, he saw an unfair bias
towards goodness in the universe. Seeing this, the powerful God created a
demi-God named Hades, the Prince of Darkness, out of all things evil,
unjust and impure. Hades was meant to restore the balance of good and evil
in creation and, in doing so, he created a lair for the damned which he
called Hell, a place to give evil an origin.

This act pleased Chaos very much, but irritated Order greatly. For
eternity, Order had respected the work of Demise, but with the creation of
Hades, Order was greatly disturbed. Out of this displeasure, Order
assisted Chaos in deposing and imprisoning Demise. Hades, without
supervision or limitation, stepped up his evil work and was able to obtain
protection from Chaos. But in threatening to create a counterpart to
Hades, a supreme Paladin, Order was able to persuade Chaos to imprison
Hades forever. In so doing, he was banished to an unknown place... but the
dominion of Hades was left untouched, and his minions were left free to
continue their endless work of evil and darkness in the Netherworld.

How to get there

A circle of black granite lines the wall to your east. (Glowing)
  • wall:
The circle must symbolize the farthest point a mortal may walk into the
Netherworld. Wind howls off the surface, singed with the faceless screams
of countless souls from the pits of damnation. A grey border surrounds
the edges of the slab, ageless yet finely crafted.
  • border:
The border is made of a finely cut quartz, darkened by the pumace of
centuries of volcanic ash.
  • quartz
The quartz is grooved intricately with deliberate markings which appear
crude enough to be man-made.
  • markings
The markings are written in the ancient language of the necromancer. The
language is reminiscent of marks you've seen near the Necromancer
Guildhall in Chakkor. Isn't there a library in there?
  • scrolls (Chakkor, "Library in the Tower of Necromancy")
One of the scrolls explains:
"... The shouts can be heard faintly even when not using
the sacred magicks. They emanate from the souls of the dead,
screaming for relief from the eternal torment and suffering
they must endure. To hear their words you will need the better
senses of the detect magic spell. Then, to prompt their shouting,
scream loudly. Their wails will then be heard."
  • parchments
One of the parchments reads:
"JDX QSGW SC JDX BXZB

XKVF QSPFQ, FVKXQ SC FPQJ
PGBXZB DSFX SC XZIJDXG YIPQJ
BVIJ, YSCCVG, ASGX, BPQJ
SHXG GSO ZQ V QZN NSP TPQJ"
  • with detect magic spell at granite wall:
A voice shouts, 'DSIIVAFX!'
A voice shouts, 'HORRIBLE!'

A voice shouts, 'DXFH! CIXX PQ!'
A voice shouts, 'HELP! FREE US!'
  • Entrance trigger words:
evil souls, lives of lust
undead holr of earthen crust
dirt, coffin, bone, dust
